Student Expectations for Virtual Learning

To ensure scholar and staff safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, we will transfer to a virtual learning platform starting March 17th.

Teachers are creating Google Classrooms to share lesson plans, exit tickets, video resources, and more. Each day you are expected to log in to Google Classroom and complete the assignments for each class by the due date. All assignments are due by the 11:59pm of the Due Date.

Scholars will have the entire day to complete assignments, however, we recommend a schedule that matches our video tutoring hours below to ensure that you are able to get teacher assistance to complete the work you are assigned.

   SCHOLAR EXPECTATIONS

Best Practices for Supporting Your Scholars with Online Learning

Check their Grades and Google Classroom: Check your scholars grades in SchoolRunner every week to make sure that they are passing their classes and that they don’t have missing assignments. Ask your scholar to show them that they don’t have missing assignments in their Google Classroom classes. If they have Missing next to the assignment, ask them to finish the assignment and turn it in.

Minimize Distractions:   Ensure your scholar has a quiet place to complete their work.  Try to limit background conversations and distractions while your student is in Zoom tutoring sessions, and when they are completing their assignments throughout the day.

Monitor Your Students’ Use of Technology:    Check in with your scholars frequently to ensure that they are using technology responsibly.  When possible, have your scholar set up their workspace in the living room or kitchen to increase adult supervision.

Read Together:  The best way to maintain and support your scholar’s reading skills is to read with them, and discuss texts with them.    If your child is a developing reader, we recommend fiction texts.  If your child is reading on grade level, we recommend reading and discussing news articles.  If you or your child need additional reading materials for your child, please contact their ELA teacher, Ms. Schneider at sschneider@legacycollegeprep.org, or Ms. Dillon at ldillon@legacycollegeprep.org.

Take Breaks:  Encourage your scholar to take a 5-10 minute brain break away from their device each hour.    Have them stretch, meditate, listen to music or play a game!

Plan Rewards and Consequences:  Plan incentives to reward your scholar for maintaining their schedule each day, completing their assignments, and earning merits during online tutoring.  Give your child consequences when they do not submit assignments, such as limiting Social Media or video games until they are caught up on their assignments.

Maintain a Consistent Schedule:  Work with your child to create consistent routines for completing assignments.  Create a schedule for them to follow each day, display it in your home, and check in with them frequently about whether their assignments were completed.  Ensure that your scholars are going to bed and waking up at times that will support their success in online learning.
